A few years back, 10 or so, I got a Traditions Buck Hunter inline blackpowder. Since then I havent hunted deer with a centerfire rifle. I load with a volume of 95 grains of ffg toped off with a Hornady 300 grain hallow point 45 cal pistol bullet. The furthest i have taken a deer was a paced 175 yards or so. In the 10 years that I have had this gun I have put 7 canisters of powder down the barrel, each canister is one pound of powder. I love pulling the trigger on this gun.

We do hunt with "modern" guns but not nearly as often as before. .32 and .36 cap and ball revolvers are fun to chase squirrels with too! My favorite .50 sidelock percussion likes 70gr. of 777 with a patched roundball. Not a long range load but its to my liking. Few deer etc have even left their tracks after meeting it, but I do limit the range of my shots and angles etc.
