Ive got several favorites depending on what Im hunting/shooting and what kind of weapon Im carrying/wanting to carry. Thats an impressiver round for balastics I know. Recoil bad with it?

Reoil is not bad at all. The gun is balanced very well and it fits me great. That migh tbe the reason the kick is not bad.

Heavier rifle/model? Thats a necked up .30-06 right? Well its a sporterized german mauser mod 98. Most 8mm-06 are 30-06 necked up, but dad and I use the 35 Whelen case and neck down. The only difference in the 35 whelen and the 30-06 is then neck all else is the same. We are more comfortable necking down then up, less stress on the case.

Lots of companyies hare worked very hard to copy the mauser action. Some are close but still not a muaser!

Many modern designed bolts are Mauser knockoffs. Only one that comes close to being as good as a Mauser is the K-31 straight pull, they are awesome too. Takes a little getting used to.

Some day I might turn anothe rmod 98 8mm into a 257 roberts or the ackley improved. A mans gotta dream!

Never messed with either one. Ive heard the ,257 Roberts is a fine deer cartridge.

Check out some the specs. for the .257 roberts and the Ackely Improved. My grandpa used the Roberts for years and years.
