Ive asked this on other forums and got some interesting and surprising answers. This question is more geared toward walking in the woods, camping etc instead of a concealed carry weapon in the urban environment. If its squirrel or rabbit season etc then a .22 or single shot 20ga is usualy at hand at the retreat or just walking in the woods. I find myself carrying a modified SKS alot lately for the yotes too. Its a "scout" version or what I interpret or my interpretation of it is. Forward mounted scope, usualy the 10 round mag is plenty but I do have 20's and 30's. For the brush we have around our place and livestock, chickens etc that seem to draw varmints it works good. Off hand anything within 100 yards is in danger, aimed fire it can hit coffee can size targets at 300. If it wasnt for the yotes I doubt I'd carry it as the single shot shotguns are easier to pack and easier on the "camp meat/stew meat".

For just walking around in the woods its either the Contender, 12 diff barrels to pick from, or my little 9 shot H&K .22.

I really like those Contenders. Had one years ago but had to sell it during the divorce. Had seversl different barrels over the years and the rifle stock also. .410 tube was handy but rather expensive to feed. The .44 rifle barrel was really handy. Not familiar with the Heckler&Koch 9 shot .22? Had several H&R 9 shot .22's, the case hardened ones. Nice revolvers as all H&R guns are. Ive never been able to justify the cost of another Thompson Contender but the N.E.F./H&R Handi Rifles/guns are a poor mans Contender. I have several and we as a family/friends/hunting group use them quite a bit. I love my Handi Rifle in .223/5.56mm but the SKS gets the nod for yotes in the yard or back 30. The Handi Rifle is a one shot=one dead yote but with 10 rounds in the SKS I have sent several chicken pilfering yotes, coy dogs, fox, skunks, possum, felines etc to a better place at the same time.
