We love to fish for cats with trotlines and bankpoles. Ran 24 bankpoles over the weekend and had flats up to 15lbs and some real nice channel 13+lbs. Dressed 30 cats altogether and threw alot of 2-lbers back. Set'em out friday evening about 5pm and ran them at 9pm and then saturday at 8am. Saturday about 5pm and again about 9pm then sunday at 9am when everything was pulled. As long as the little river our cabins are at has water we run the poles all summer. We'll put out trotlines and run around 60 bankpoles once schools out and we can stay at the cabins a week or two at a time. Use to love jugging but the lakes where its legal around here are few and far between. They outlawed limblines in the mid 80's but we used them alot until then.

Too each his own for sure. Ice fishing is not my thing but some years our safe ice is limited to a few weeks. Did some as a kid for mainly gills n crappie, few bass. Usually if we got enough safe ice Im beaver trapping but I have cut holes and fished then set baited 330's or on occasion snares in the same hole when leaving. Fish caught thru the ice certainly do taste good. Ive always been amazed how excited little 3" gills make grown men when caught thru the ice and in the summer they throw them on the bank at worst or refer to them as bait. We did some ice walleye fishing one winter on Shelbyville and that was FUN. We have so many restrictions too as ice fishing gear cant be left unattended and your only allowed two devices so 4 or 5 tipups are out of the question except on private water.
