At work today I was doing a topo survey through a stunted Black Spruce swamp, you know the kind that is a like a water bed. Well I was about 3 hours into this survey, me alone, carrying one half of a 60 thousand dollar GPS. As I walk around the swamp taking elevation points all is good. I am wearing my hip boots because as I step the moss sinks about 2 feet and water rises to the top, and we have had our share or rain. Well its bout lunch time so I am working my way back to my work truck and...and...and. I step all the way through the moss with both feet, I'm going down!! I go straight down to just past my belly button. I can not feel anything solid under me when I move my feet, luckily my beer belly as stopped from going deeper. I used the pole that the GPS is attached to to pull myself out of th hole. I cuss and use words not fit for a sailor as I walk back to the truck. I'm fine and my equipment still works. It pouring here as I write this and tomorrow I go back to the swamp to finish what I started.
